Model Information

This part of my website has been put together to help you gain the information you need to help you start in the modeling world. It is not intended as a complete guide to making a fortune... I can't and won't tell you that you can. In fact I will tell you that modeling is one of the most difficult areas to work in. This is just my opinion, based on experience and its not intended to be taken as a definitive career path. It is up to you to decide if any of this information is relevant.

Note to Male models: Guy's.. most of this is written based on the reader being female.. well they outnumber you in the industry about 80 to 1 by my estimate. Most of this is relevant to you, so please read on... and accept my apologies for not writing in a neutral perspective.

Information will be posted and updated here about all aspects of modeling, from getting a portfolio to what's involved in being a model and how to present your portfolio. Where I can, I have examples and samples of some of the Portfolios and Comp Cards and in the future, I hope to be able to compile a complete posing guide on line and in book form in the near future. I have designed pages to help answer some of the common questions and there is a Q & A section generated from some of the more specific questions.

I have added some information about Model Release forms as I am often asked about what they are and what is on them by new models. It is surprising how many models will leave a photo shoot and have not been given a model release to sign, so have no idea what the photographer is going to do with the images from the shoot.

So, you want to be a model?

Well, if you are reading this, then I guess you want to know more at least, but you fancy the idea. Lets get one thing straight first off. It is unlikely you will become a household name or you will make a fortune. For every model that you can name – there are 10,000 models that you don’t know!

PhotoRight, if you are still reading.......... the next thing you need to remember is models do have a limited shelf life. So, dependent on your age, don’t give up college or university on the strength of a few jobs…. Get your education! Remember, modeling is a business, you will need the same business skills as if you were running a shop, making a product or selling something. Check out "The Business of being a Model".

If you have already done that, don’t give up your job unless your modeling income every month matches your day job. Not putting a damper on things, but this industry is hard and there are more “wannabe” models than there are stars in the sky.

Hey....... you are still reading..... well OK, lets see what we can do to help you on your way.

First, there are some things that you can do for yourself ...chief among these is selecting a couple of good photographers in your area to build a working relationship with. What is the definition of a good photographer? - It differs depending upon what you are seeking.

Establishing relationships with local photographers can work. Prove yourself to them as an honest, forthright, dependable and real person and possibly you can get some industry recommendations from them. Keep in mind that almost every photographer has advice that he or she will offer you. Not all this advice is accurate nor does it apply to all models, in every situation. This includes anything you read on my website!

Anyone who promises that they will make you a super model, well.... is being dishonest (unless they are the head of one of the big agencies!). All anyone can do is try.... all you can do is try.
